As I understand it the reason it is said to be 7yrs of bad luck to break a mirror is because your soul gets at least partly stuck on the other side if it is broken while looking in. [link]

Of course this is silly but mirrors were expensive when they were first invented and I am sure it took a while to replace way back when.

Either way I like the piece. The dynamic of the pose is an important element
